As the flu season is at its peak, we all are focused on getting a flu shot. Getting a flu shot might not be a bad idea, but people are led to believe that they have no choice but to get the flu shot in order to not get a flu. But this article was written with those people in mind who do not want to get the flu shot and are confused about what they can do to prevent getting the flu. Prevention is very important during a flu epidemic.

Things to do to prevent the flu:

  • Wash hands thoroughly to wash off pathogens.
  • Take a breath of fresh air; walking outdoors in the cold weather might sound outrageous, but interestingly enough, indoor air is more polluted than outdoor air.
  • Avoid crowded places, as people are more prone to get an infection in the crowded places.
  • Exercise and try yoga to help build a strong immunity.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Taking a Resveratrol supplement, as it inhibits the growth of an influenza virus. At a research done at the University of Rome on Resveratrol, researchers quoted , “Resveratrol acts by inhibiting a cellular, and not a viral, function and Resveratrol could be a particularly valuable anti-influenza drug.”
  • Colloidal Silver helps in destroying the flu viruses.
  • Stress is a major cause of low immunity. When you have high level of stress, your body is too busy to keep those stress hormones in balance. But the downside is, if at the same time your body has an invasion of a virus, your immune system is too busy fighting stress, which lowers the immunity. Though stress cannot be prevented, it can be controlled through meditation, cognitive behavior therapy, and other stress management techniques such as learning life skills. Taking adaptogens can also help combat stress. Adaptogens are plants that help the body combat internal and environmental stresses and improves resistance to diseases.

Debate on flu shot:

Some health experts such as Dr. Mercola believe that you do not need a flu shot. A flu shot is not a guarantee that you will not get the flu. Instead, people should focus on getting their immunity stronger by eating healthy, exercising, and supplementing with antioxidant, vitamins, mineral and herbs will be more helpful in the long run. He also believes that all vaccines have a capacity to suppress the immune system. The long-term side effect of taking a flu shot every year is unknown. On the other hand, the preservatives used in these vaccines have high levels of heavy metals, which can cause adverse reactions and allergies. Though there is some debate as to whether to get a flu shot or not, that is a personal choice that every person should make for themselves. Remember that you do have a choice and if you decide not to get a flu shot, you can try the above mentioned suggestions.
